ABOUT THE ARTIST
Pavel Baňka was born in 1941 in Prague, Czech Republic. His work has been shown extensively throughout Europe and the United States, including a major career retrospective at the prestigious Rudolfinum Museum in Prague in 2001, and is part of significant collections, including those at the Art Institute of Chicago; International Center of Photography, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris; Musée de l'Élysée, Lausanne; and Museum Ludwig, Cologne. Apart from being a well-established artist, Baňka is also a prolific writer and curator. In 2002, he co-founded FOTOGRAF magazine, which has expanded to a gallery and an annual photo festival in the center of Prague.
