El Anatsui was born in Ghana, and lives and works between Ghana and Nigeria. His works of art are included in numerous private and public collections, including the British Museum, London, UK; Centre Pompidou, Paris, FR; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA; Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, AE; Indianapolis Museum of Art, IN; Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman, JO; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, DE; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; National Gallery of Contemporary Art, Lagos, NG; Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, CA; and Setagaya Art Museum, Tokyo, JP. Among other prestigious commendations he has received throughout his illustrious career, he was awarded the Praemium Imperiale Award, in Tokyo, from His Imperial Highness Prince Hitachi, honorary patron of the Japan Art Association.
